Workers Compensation:

Compensation for Disfigurement

Many states have workers compensation laws that allow a worker to collect benefits if he or she has a disfigurement or scar because of a work-related injury. Some states allow up to $2,000 for serious and permanent scars to an area of the body usually exposed to the public view. The term permanent applies to scars or disfigurements lasing six months or more after the injury or last surgery or when a doctor has determined the injured party has reached the maximum medical improvement. Public view applies to any scar or disfigurement that can be seen when the injured worker wears a swimsuit.
