According to a study conducted by the Office of National Drug Control Policy, 22.4% of federal prison inmates were under the influence of drugs at the time of their offense. Almost 30% of all inmates convicted of murder were under the influence of drugs. Other crimes that inmates committed while being on drugs included sexual assault, robbery, fraud and violent offenses. Approximately 10% of federal inmates committed their crime to obtain money or drugs. These crimes included burglary, homicide and assault.
