Registration Process

To register a work, you will need the following items:

  • A completed application form
  • $30 nonrefundable filing fee for each application
  • Nonreturnable deposit of the work being registered

Send the three items in a package to:

  • The Library of Congress
  • Copyright Office
  • 101 Independence Ave., S.E.
  • Washington, D.C. 20559-6000

If the work was first published in the States on or after Jan. 1 1978, send two complete copies or phonorecords of the best edition. If the work was first published in the States before Jan. 1, 1978, send two complete copies or phonorecords of the work as first published. If the work was first published outside of the States, send one complete copy or phonorecord of the work as first published.
