My girlfriend got divorced in 01-08. Since that time she has been threatened and spit on, cursed and slapped. She has been in 2 battered women's shelters in alabama and now has a Protection from Abuse order. But he still harasses and threatens. No one will help and we can't afford an attorney. I'm afraid he is going to kill her. He filed for Joint Custody and when he went to court the Judge put him in jail for being $13,000.00 behind in child support. He got out in 4 days without paying a penny. Someone give advice please.
In Alabama, protection orders are enforceable under Alabama law. Next time he threatens or harasses her, call the cops. A violation of a protection order is a Class A misdemeanor and he can be arrested without a warrant as long as there is probable cause that he violated the protection order.
