Who this can affect: Those using the Baxter 6060 Multi-Therapy Pump
In Nov. 2005, Baxter International withdrew the 6060 Multi-Therapy pump, which delivers intravenous medications in home and hospital settings. A spokeswoman for Baxter said they received reports of two injuries and one death possibly linked to the pump.
Baxter advised hospitals and other facilities to have a backup pump ready in case of any problems. Reports have surfaced of damage to the pump’s batteries including swelling and extreme discharge resulting in irreversible damage. The pump would become incapable of operating on battery power, leading to an interruption of life-sustaining medications and possible death or serious injuries.
