Medical Leave

Under the Family and Medical Leave Act, covered employers must give eligible employees up to 12 workweeks of  unpaid leave during any 12-month period for any of the following reasons:

  • For the birth and care of a newborn baby
  • For the placement of a son or daughter in foster care or adoption process
  • To care for an immediate family member (spouse, parent or child) with a serious illness or
  • To take leave when an employee is unable to work because of a serious health problem

To be eligible for FMLA leave, an employee must have worked 12 months and at least 1250 hours and at a location where there are at least 50 employees.
