Susan E Luscomb

Biographical Information

Originally from Michigan, Susan spent several years teaching in the U.S. Virgin Islands before attending law school in Massachusetts. She remained in the Boston area for twenty-five years, and for most of that time she was a partner in the law firm of Luscomb & English. Susan and her family moved to Virginia in 1998, to help care for her parents as their health declined. She has personally dealt with many of the issues faced by her clients as they and their families confront the challenges of illness, incapacity, long term care arrangements, and death.

With over 30 years of experience in private practice, Susan joined with Attorney Helena Mock in May, 2010 to open a new practice with offices in both Williamsburg and Newport News: The Peninsula Center for Estate Planning and Elder Law. Susan continues to counsel clients on a wide variety of matters relating to estate planning and administration. Although focusing primarily on trust planning, Susan also assists clients with guardianships, conservatorships and other incapacity issues, property and health care powers of attorney, living wills, HIPAA releases, wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, asset protection, special needs trusts, estate and trust administration, pre- and post-marital agreements, and numerous other related matters. Clients also benefit from Susan's experience in real estate, family law and litigation from her early years in practice, as these subjects are very often interwoven into the planning and administration of estates, whether large or small. A teacher prior to becoming an attorney, Susan excels at educating her clients about estate planning options and related legal documents in a "user-friendly" manner, so that they may better understand and participate in planning decisions.

Susan is a popular guest speaker at seminars and programs on various estate planning, administration and retirement topics offered by a range of organizations, including the AARP, retirement, civic and church groups, local colleges and universities, financial and other professional organizations, including national continuing legal education providers. She is a Charter Member, and the only Hampton Roads member, of the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys, an elite national group of estate planning attorneys recommended by Money Magazine, Consumer Reports Money Magazine, Suze Orman and others.
