Sarah A Kirkpatrick

Biographical Information

Sarah A. Kirkpatrick received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Louisiana State University at Shreveport, cum laude, in 1993, where she was inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honor society. In 1996, she received her Juris Doctor degree from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University, where she was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi, and served on the Louisiana Bar Review.

Ms. Kirkpatrick's practice includes various aspects of the energy industry. Her experience includes litigating oil and gas contamination cases and mass tort cases including the first case tried to a jury under Louisiana's Act 312 establishing the procedure for litigation of oil field contamination cases. She has also litigated other oil and gas related cases including lease cancellation cases, demand for development and royalty demand cases. In addition to her litigation work, Ms. Kirkpatrick has an active transactional practice covering water supply agreements, salt water disposal agreements, master services agreements and pipeline construction agreements. She also has experience in pipeline expropriation and construction liens.

Ms. Kirkpatrick has been an active member of the Shreveport Bar Association, serving in 2003 as secretary-treasurer and as an at-large representative from 2004-2006. She served in 2002 as the Consul of the Treasury for the Krewe of Justinian. She was a board member for the Shreveport Bar Foundation Pro Bono Project from 1998-2004 and served as its chair in 2002 and 2003. She also served on the Board of the Shreveport Bar Foundation from 2002-2007. From 2005-2007, she acted, by appointment of the Caddo District Judges, on the Caddo Parish Indigent Defense Board of Directors.

As an Elder at First Presbyterian Church of Shreveport, Ms. Kirkpatrick served for four years as the outreach ministry chair. She has served in various community organizations in Shreveport, including Community Support Programs, Inc., a non-profit organization serving the homeless and chronically mentally ill, and the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier, which named her its Community Volunteer of the Year for 2003.
