Johnetta G. Paye

Biographical Information

Before opening J. Paye & Associates, Johnetta interned in the Senate office of former Illinois Senator Barack Obama. She also volunteered at the Illinois campaign headquarters of President Barack Obama.

During law school, she was a law clerk in the corporate legal department at Tribune Company. As a law clerk, she enhanced her knowledge of copyright, trademark, corporate, and regulatory law. Johnetta was also a news intern at CNN, where she deepened her knowledge of the news and entertainment industries. Johnetta's professional experiences during law school have enabled her to gain practical experience and extensive knowledge of the entertainment industry.

As a law student, she competed in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition and the Capital University Adoption Moot Court Competition. She also was one of the top 16 finalists in the William Herzog Moot Court competition at John Marshall Law School.

Since founding J. Paye & Associates, Johnetta has represented private and corporate clients across a variety of industries. She has represented clients in several copyright infringement disputes, in one case, securing a five-figure settlement. She works extensively with screenwriters to form business entities and draft film contracts. She negotiates record and demo deals for musicians. Johnetta is also a skilled litigator, and has represented clients in breach-of-contract disputes, eviction proceedings, child support hearings, and business litigation disputes.
