Biographical Information

Jody Michael Burgess is a partner in the firm of Maire & Burgess with a practice emphasis on real property, business and contract litigation. Mr. Burgess handles a wide variety of property matters including quiet title actions, boundary disputes, easement litigation, inverse condemnation, eminent domain and partition actions. Other areas of practice include prosecuting and defending sellers, buyers, and brokers in matters relating to residential, commercial, and vacant land sale contracts, public entity litigation, business litigation and litigation relating to mechanic's lien law and construction defects. Mr. Burgess also serves as general counsel to special districts and to a number of private businesses in Shasta, Butte, Tehama, Siskiyou and TrinityCounties. Mr. Burgess received his Bachelor of Science Degree with cum laude honors at California State University of Sacramento in 1998, and was admitted into the Alpha Phi Sigma and Golden Key National Honor Societies. Mr. Burgess received his Juris Doctor from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 2002. He graduated with distinction and was admitted to the Roger J. Traynor Honor Society. During law school he participated in the Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General Honors Program, where he worked in the Criminal Appeals and Writs Division. In 2008-2010, Mr. Burgess received the BV designation by his peers recognized for very high legal ability and ethics for attorneys with less than 10 years experience.

Mr. Burgess is a member of the State Bar of California; the United States District Court for the Eastern District; the State Bar Real Property Law and Business Litigation Sections; the Shasta-Trinity Counties Bar Association; the International Association of Defense Counsel Trial Academy Alumni Network, and a past member of the Association of Defense Counsel for Northern California and Nevada. In 2004, Mr. Burgess served as Vice President of the Shasta-Trinity Counties Bar Association.
