Biographical Information

Mr. Cavanaugh has received extensive trial and courtroom experience. He has achieved the highest rating for legal ability in Martindale-Hubbell. He has tried over a hundred cases in Collier, Lee, Hendry and Glades Counties and has supervised prosecutors in thousands of others including DUI's Misdemeanors, Felonies, Violations of Probation, State and County, Drug Court and Mental Health Court and other diversion programs. He supervised prosecutors in all 4 counties including working as the Office Head in Hendry and Glades Counties and in 2009-2010 he was the Misdemeanor and Juvenile supervisor and Mental Health Court attorney in Collier County. While a prosecutor he received various awards and recognition including the overall Attorney of the Year in 2004. He was the lead prosecutor coordinating the Dateline "To Catch a Predator" that occurred in Fort Myers, Florida. Having tried several DNA cases, he was interviewed by ABC involving a juror's expectations of DNA evidence in light of the many fictional crime shows using DNA in their episodes. Prior to his recent time with the Office of the State Attorney, Mr. Cavanaugh was in private practice working in the criminal and civil areas of law. He has worked with numerous forensic experts including DNA and DUI experts. Mr. Cavanaugh has lectured to 100's of law enforcement personnel and prosecutors over the past 10 years. He has also been a guest lecturer at colleges and high schools. Mr. Cavanaugh will be defending people accused of crimes and those seriously injured.
