Verdicts & Settlements
|
$22,000,000
Verdict
- Medical Negligence 63 year old man entered a suburban Chicago hospital with severe neck pain following a chiropractic manipulation. He was monitored by the nursing staff which failed to report that he was gradually losing neurologic function. By the time a neurologist was finally called, the patient was a quadriplegic. The case was tried in the Circuit Court of Cook County. |
|
$9,000,000
Settlement
- Labor and Delivery Mother was in labor at a Chicago area university medical center when she suddenly went into respiratory arrest from an amniotic fluid embolism. Although she was ultimately rushed to surgery for an emergency c-section, it was established that the obstetrician delayed in making this decision for 7 to 11 minutes. Even this short period of time was sufficient to result in the fetus being damaged by anoxia (lack of oxygen). The child suffers from cerebral palsy. |
|
$6,750,000
Verdict
- Construction Negligence Iron worker was killed when he was swept off high steel by a bundle of floor decking being delivered by crane. The bundle of decking should have had a tag line attached to it so as to allow the decedent iron worker to safely land the decking on the steel floor beams. It did not and while trying to control the 3000 pound load, he was knocked off of the steel and fell two stories to his death. He was survived by a wife and three daughters. |
|
$3,750,000
Settlement
- Labor and Delivery 36 year old mother died from complications of pre-eclampsia and DIC following childbirth at a suburban Chicago hospital. She left a husband, the newborn son, and a 2 year old son. Case proceeded in the Circuit Court of Cook County. |
