Brian A Cowan

Biographical Information

Brian A. Cowan brings his substantial business background to over 18 years of law practice. He has counseled business owners and senior management regarding gas gathering, choice of entity, corporate law, contracts, intellectual property, long-range business planning, compensation and incentive programs, and employment issues. Mr. Cowan has negotiated and conducted numerous mergers, acquisitions and sales of businesses in Louisiana, Mississippi, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico and Texas.

Mr. Cowan practices primarily in the area of natural gas gathering. He has extensive experience in the negotiation and preparation of gathering and processing agreements, compression agreements, master services agreements for pipeline construction and related services, state regulatory advice with respect to gathering activities, sales and lease agreements of gathering facilities, and balancing and other system management agreements. Mr. Cowan represents a major multistate gas gathering company in its day-to-day transactions.

Mr. Cowan advised a major energy company in the acquisition of two Haynesville Shale gathering systems from EnCana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc. and SWEPI, LP. and the related pipeline construction and long-term natural gas gathering and treating agreements.

Mr. Cowan's practice also includes a major focus in intellectual property law. He represents a number of artists, authors, software developers, inventors, corporate entities, and even a movie studio on an ongoing basis regarding virtually every type of intellectual property matter.

Mr. Cowan earned his Bachelor of Business Administration with a double major in Finance and Accounting from Millsaps College in 1984. Mr. Cowan graduated from University of Mississippi Law School, magna cum laude, in 1993, where he received numerous scholarships and awards for academic excellence. A Dean's List student throughout law school, Mr. Cowan served as a teaching assistant, member of the Law Review and Honor Council Chairman.
